The birthday blog entry
Foo, the blog entry for Wednesday 2/16 didn't show up on 2/16 because I saved it in draft mode...helps to save it in publish mode! Oops...
Shawl
The pictures on the digital camera of the rainbow plaid shawl did not come out very well. We took some other pictures with a disposable film camera & I expect that they will come out MUCH better...when I get those photos back I'll post other pictures of the shawl.
The digital camera I have doesn't do very well & overall I'm thinking that even an expensive digital camera still won't beat the photo quality of a cheap-disposable film camera...
Anyway, here's a photo of the shawl:
The fringe showed up "so-so": it was Online Smash eyelash in autumn & tropical colors.
Don't forget to notice the hat! It's made with White Buffalo unspun in beige heather, seal beige heather and deep teal. Quick and easy and comfy. Right out of the White Buffalo book "From Head To Toe" The only thing I would do over would be to make the hat smaller...it's too loose even for Gary & I got the gauge right, etc...
Hopefully the pictures from the film camera will come out better.
And here is a photo of another 4 foot shawl in a similar colorway showing the color more accurately:
The yarns for the two shawls are actually the same color scheme, just different dye lots... the newer dye lots plaid out, while the old ones did not. I liked it better when the colors didn't plaid...
White Buffalo Muchos Ponch
Here is a swatch of the White Buffalo Muchos poncho.
A note about the color: the lightest color is actually a little deeper...it's the "soft turquoise" white buffalo...the blue is actually the turquoise and is more... ummm... turquoise than blue, just did not come out right in this photo. Hmmph...
Now that I've got a picture of the swatch, I'm going to rip it out because I only have one cake of the red (cherry) color and one cake of the gold. I can probably get some more gold, but I don't think I can get any more cherry... I think I should have enough, but I need to figure that every inch of that yarn might count... I'll do a proper gauge swatch (to wash) with the soft turquoise or another color... the hat doesn't qualify as a gauge swatch since it is knit with smaller needles than what I'll use for the poncho.
Yarn on the Way...and patterns, too!
The Briggs & Little package should be here today... in it will be the yarn for a couple of Rogue kits and several rolls that will become a Country Roving jacket for another customer...and some sock yarn and the Green Heather for my Rogue project.
The scans color swatches on the Heritage yarn card do NOT do the color justice... perhaps I'll be able to get a better picture with my digital camera or a film camera.
I also ordered some Briggs and Little patterns... a couple of patterns for the Country Roving and a couple of patterns for Heritage... including some thrummed mittens...
Happy Birthday to Evan & Micah...what a 10 years it has been...
This was taken 7 or 8 years ago right around the time Harrison was born.
While browsing through the photo boxes, I found a note that Gary had written to a friend when they were a few months old:
Personality wise, Micah's better tempered but Evan is usually more cuddly, content to be held, whereas Micah would rather DO things. Evan is more reserved, too, and Micah is a big flirt. Evan may end up mechanically minded like his pop. Micah's likely to be obnoxiously extroverted.
He couldn't have been more wrong! Micah is the more mechanically minded, but would rather NOT *do* things. (Homework for instance, though if he decides he's going to do something, he'll get pretty busy. He can sometimes be obnoxiously extroverted, but has lost his flirty-ness.
Evan is no longer as reserved as he was, but still is pretty sensitive. He'd rather ride his bike or play soccer., but isn't super interested in how things work like his twin is...
Goes to show that you can't judge a personality in the early months...
I've put together a page on my website for kits to make the Girl From Auntie Rogue hooded sweater...click on Kits! and you'll see the option for Rogue. The kit comes with the authorized print pattern in sturdy card stock and enough Briggs & Little Heritage yarn for the size of your choice... if you already have a pattern, you can order Heritage yarn on the Heritage page... the way it works is I'll order the yarn from Briggs & Little on the Monday night after you place your order if I have at least 1 or 2 other orders... Wednesday is their shipping day, so the yarn would get to me on Saturday & I ship out Monday or Tuesday.
I've been going back & forth re: Rogue colors for MY Rogue sweater. Originally I was going to do it in Teal in a donegal tweed yarn that I have, but I decided to knit it with Heritage...... there's one color, Forest Green, that I absolutely love in the Briggs & Little Tuffy (same size yarn as Heritage), which is 80% woool and 20% nylon... which is ideal for socks. The Heritage in Green Heather might be close enough, too but there is something that I just LOVE about the Forest Green.
We'll see...I'm just not totally in love with the light blue as I am with the FG..
Maybe I'll just use the Tuffy in Forest green to make socks...
Finished Projects (or Why Is the Loom Naked?)
Photos coming soon... I finished another shawl for the gallery & will be posting photos of it in a few days... it has the colors of sunset and the yarn was plaiding a fair bit. I don't know if the plaiding will show up well in the photos or not.. and used an eyelash fringe.
I also finished a White Buffalo hat and Gary took pictures of that as well.
There should also be some pictures of the teddy bear sweater that I finished for Reuven a couple of years ago. I think this may be the last year he can wear it... wish I could get the same yarn again, but I don't remember the name of the company...
I also need to get some pictures of the hat I made for Evan... it's a Lopi hat in red & white. He was home sick a few weeks ago and we thought maybe he could make himself a hat. He wanted it to be in his soccer team colors.
I'll also try to get a good photo of the swatch for my White Buffalo Muchos Poncho.
He was supposed to knit the hat, but first I cast on and did the ribbing for him (he didn't want to learn to purl that day)... then he wanted me to do a fair isle diamond design, so I did that..then he did about 1 or 2 plain rounds and then I decreased the top... so much for HIM making his own hat!
I don't know what we're going to do about soccer for Evan this season. He's signed up with the recreational league, but 2 of his friends won't be on that team, they'll be playing in the pre-select league... but until Gary gets a job, we can't really afford to send him... practices cost $5 each and then I think it's $25 for the league & I don't know what other fees there will be, except for gas to get him to practices... I know he'll be really disappointed if he can't play on the pre-select team, but there is one other consideration: he doesn't practice at home... if he did, that would make a difference. If he really wants to play, maybe he can use some of his horse feeding money & birthday money to pay for half of what he'll have to pay for practices and league fees.. maybe then he'll practice at home...
We're also keeping a watch on Liberty, one of our male cats: a few days ago he was obsessing about the cat box... looked like he kept trying to go... we switched to a cat food with urinary support, and we'll keep an eye on him...
Nuffernow, probably will have pictures soon!
