I started blogging on 7/31/2002... not on this link, but on blogger... the first entry may even still be there at http://ramblingwarps.blogspot.com but I think I may have deleted it...
Anyway, it's been an interesting 3 years... my thoughts on blogging: it's what you make it: not every blogger likes to post every day. I sure don't. I've even gone without posting for over a month, but I try not to get that bad...
Today I "celebrated" by:
1: knitting on my cousin's baby's sweater: I got sleeve #2 to the same length as sleeve #1, picked up the sleeve stitches that join with the body and got a couple of rows done on the body... home stretch, sort of...
2: weaving on the tapestry sampler & got another small section done...
3: by reading Deborah Macomber's "A Good Yarn", which is a book about a yarn shop on Blossom street in Seattle
4: & thought about what I want to do for my larger tapestry (will be around 10" wide by ?? long...probably 14" or something around that length)...
Hopefully will decide soon on a design for the warp on the Brennan loom. I don't really want to use the tapestry pattern in Nancy Harvey's book. This is not to say that I don't LIKE her designs: I DO, but I'd rather make up my own using the general shapes that are covered in the patterns connected to Project One... I thought about using one of the designs that Reuven did that reminds me of a Piet Mondrian painting, but it doesn't have any diagonal lines... I may do a tapestry of it someday, but not this time, unless I decide to throw in a few diagonals...
Photo updates soon... maybe this week?
AND Last but not least: A HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my wonderful big Sister!!
Socks: almost done: started in 2001 or 2002... only about 5 or 6 rounds to go before casting off in a 3 needle bind off...if the socks fit, I'm done!
Baby sweater from Elizabeth Zimmerman's Knitting Almanac, with the gull wing pattern (hard to see here?) for my cousin's baby born in March...right now it looks like a crumpled mess..didn't have enough done to put on a teddybear yet! I hope it will fit through next Spring! Still have one sleeve left, then I work the body from the underarms down, pick out some buttons & voila... (more or less)... it would photograph better in a lighter color. I used Patons Decor in the color Tapestry, but would like to maybe do another sweater using one of my wool handpainted yarns....I'm more likely to do the baby pants using handpainted worsted weight sock yarn.... :)
Here's a tapestry sampler I started last night, in preparation for MAYBE doing the following design as a tapestry:
I'm working on the following needlepoint, it's called The Egyptian... it's rolled up so you can't see the whole design...
but here's a small section that I worked earlier this week:
And here's a corner of the triloom shawl in progress...haven't worked on it in about a month:
The yarn is Lionbrand Incredible... it's nylon, which is nice & light, drapes nicely, pretty...
But I think that a 100% cotton ribbon yarn I have will make an even more awesome shawl!
Hope you enjoyed the pictures! My eyes have had it, no more proofreading!
Here's a list of my current WIPS:
Pink cityline socks: about 5 or 6 more rounds to go & HOPEFULLY they will be done (if I'm happy with how they turn out).
Cottage Creations Fritz: an Alpine Friend for Reuven
Muchos White Buffalo Poncho (in UFO/undecided mode..may want to make a jacket with this yarn instead)
Baby Sweater from EZ's Knitter's Alamanac using Patons Decor in Tapestry:
I'm not sure how this is going to turn out size-wise... I'm hoping that it will fit this fall & winter for a baby that was born this past March!
I did a little swatch using the tapestry variegated yarn & like the way the gull patterning is coming out... it's a worsted weight yarn: the pattern calls for up to US 5 knitting needles, but I'm using US 7...
Also want to make the baby socks from the Summer Interweave Knits... I finally found the smaller Addi Turbo circulars so that I don't HAVE to HAAAAAAAVE to finish up the cityline pink socks so I can make these! That makes me happy!
Also, people on different lists & blogs have been tempting me with the Mystery Stole... I found a swatch of some shetland yarn I'd like to use to make it... but also found an natural colored mystery yarn...maybe I should use the mystery yarn: the label says that is is Montevideo, also lists a few other obscure things about the yarn... maybe this would be the way to go: mystery stole, mystery yarn... will do a burn test first...but this might be in the category of "sounds like fun, but I've too many other things to do... we'll see!
Here is a photo of my 7 year old holding up some handpainted yarn that I did for a customer:
And here are some teacher gifts:
This is a mosaic of butterflies... the light green is the background & you can pick out the butterflies & 2 flowers among the colored yarn...
Harrison's teacher called it a hotpad: I guess it's too thick to be a facecloth/dishcloth! But that's alright!
A facecloth or dishcloth...
Mosaic puppies... I also made a full sized one of these and we sent it to my aunt in NY and she is also going to use it as a hotpad...
For your amusement, some animal pictures:
Opus found a snapping turtle and the boys put it in an old laundry basket
Our neighbor's dog found it fascinating
Littleface thought she had a better catch!
Dumbledore rolled in the dirt
after we let the snapper loose, Opus just wanted to hang out in the shade!
Have a wonderful 4th, everyone!
It should be a quiet weekend for us: we'll just stay home, maybe we'll make some food on the grill or smoker and do some drawing/knitting/whatever...and Gary & I will work in the shop in the mornings.
