I'm getting excited: at the end of this month, we'll be going to the Rethinking Education conference, which looks like it's going to be wonderful...we went a few years ago when the twins were 4 and Harrison was 6 months old...
This year's workshops include belly dancing (which I may try, especially if the music is loud enough for me to hear), and I'll be helping out with the silent auction... there's lots of stuff for kids, games, arts & crafts, an egg drop contest, music, etc...
They're also having Tarot workshops... I never really did learn Tarot, maybe I will this time... I have a Connelly deck, but I may be missing a card or two or may have extras... I counted 79 cards not counting the card with the crediting info... I'm looking at a couple of other decks like the Tarot of Oz (there is a Scraps Patchwork Girl Card in there!!) and the Whimsical Tarot... found one seller on ebay that has both for a reasonable price...
They'll also have a family vendor night on Saturday & we've got a table reserved for it...
Name for this blog
I've been thinking that I need to come up with another name for this blog... we're unschooling, which is not exactly homeschooling... and TWWRHS is quite the mouthful & the initials aren't much better... something academy, but what? I want it to be something that we can take with us if we move again, so nothing geographic... and Creative Academy isn't exactly original since there's a book called Surviving the Applewhites, and I think that family uses Creative Academy...
Some thoughts...
I'm still working on letting go of all my preconceived notions of how kids "should" learn.. there's no SHOULD there, we all learn/do/live/think differently. Evan indicated that he would rather "concentrate" on a subject rather than do several a day... so maybe we'll have a math month, writing month, etc... I think there are only 2 things we ought to consider doing on a regular basis like music (if anyone actually wants to play any of the instruments we have around here)...they'll have a music room at the conference, maybe we'll learn some fun ways to play our instruments!
