Monday we were taking a walk in this ghost town we live in, heading over to see the llamas about 2 or 3 blocks from our house & a kitten (6 months old, we guess) adopted us... so now we have 6 cats and a dog... she's settling in nicely and loves to be close to someone! We think she is around 5 or 6 months old!
Waldorf for late starters
I had been fussing in my head a bit about how to approach things since my older 2 have not done Waldorf schooling before now. I looked at the recommended blocks for the different grades and I decided that I would like them to have at least a little bit of the Norse Mythology...that is what 4th graders cover... Evan has read some & Micah may have read some.
I also was not sure how to approach form drawing and asked around and was recommended to just start at the beginning & with the older 2, they should progress fairly quickly....I'll be learning along with them once we get to the freehand geometry!
They are currently learning how to do counted cross stitch for their handwork projects. They already know how to knit since I taught them in 1st grade...they are making up their own design right now and sort of following the instructions for how to make the crosses & such... depending on interest, we may stay with embroidery related handcrafts for this year, or we may move on to socks... I love knitting socks & usually use a long circular needle and work 2 socks on that needle... don't know if the boys will want to do their socks that way also, we'll see!
Who knows, maybe we'll do some sock knitting and alternate between socks and counted cross stitching...photos when I locate the digital camera cable!
SO there will only be a little bit of past grade material that we will cover before starting the 5th grade history/literature materials...
I have all my Christopherus materials, which have been incredibly helpful in helping me understand Waldorf education... especially the block & lesson book concepts...
Hopefully this weekend I will unearth my other homeschooling box... it has the books I want to use for Main Lesons and the Greek Mythology book & others...
I may have to re-print Padraic Colums Odins Children as I'm not sure where that book is... the downside of moving....
